How it Works
Laser hair removal R E A L I T Y!
Skin First laser is the most advanced and innovative system for laser hair removal. Our treatments are safe and effective for hair removal. They have the fastest repetition rate and the largest spot size found in such technology. This means it works effectively to remove body and facial hair without damaging the structure of the skin.
Our laser has precisely controlled pulses that are specifically optimised to target the hair follicle. The pigment (colour) absorbs the energy which travels down to the root of the hair then destroys the follicle; so that hair growth is impeded.
Below is some additional information to help you understand the relationship of laser hair removal to your skin.
Hair Growth Cycles
Active hair growth goes through three main cycles (Anagen, Catagen and Telogen) in which Laser Hair removal was designed to integrate within the process to achieve that long lasting effect.
- Growth Stage (Anagen): This is the phase in which hair growth is at its most active stage – the root of the hair is firmly attached within the skin where the melanin (pigment) is abundant. This is also the stage when Laser hair removal is most effective.
- Transition stage (Catagen): The hair has completed growing and is now as long as it will be. With Laser hair removal, the hair detaches from the root and will fall out on its own. The duration of this process can range from 7 -21 days.
- Resting stage (Telogen): This is the resting phase of the hair follicle. The hair has detached from the root and is no longer growing. This stage can last from one week to up to a year before the cycle returns to the growth stage.
Inactive Hair
Hairs that are inactive are those that are yet to be activated by hormones. There are approximately 1,000 hairs per square centimeter and yet, only less than 100 hairs are actively growing. Hormones trigger the activation of the hair growth cycle, and that is why hair growth is most active at puberty and less active as we get older. Hair needs to be actively growing in order for Laser to be effective. The number of Laser treatments required to remove hair will depend on your genetic makeup and other factors which determine your hormone levels.
Melanin
Melanin is the colour or pigment present in hair. Laser light is absorbed by darker objects, which is why treating darker hair is much more effective. The more contrast an individual has between their hair and skin, the better the result.
